Over $80M in funding available for Townsville tourism businesses -2 August 2018

Over $80M in tourism funding is now available for tourism businesses as the State Government launches the $36M Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund and the $48M Attracting Tourism Fund.

Townsville North Queensland tourism operators are invited to apply for the funding designed to increase the State’s share of the international tourism market.

Townsville Enterprise’s Director of Tourism and Events Bridget Woods said the Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund is available for businesses to apply for funds to boost their product offering.

“This funding provides a huge opportunity for local tourism businesses to better their product offering, diversify their businesses and to start projects they otherwise wouldn’t be able to fund.

“Tourism is an integral part of our region’s economy and this funding will ultimately drive visitors to our region and inject much needed tourist dollars into our economy.

“The launch of these funds really highlights the State Government’s commitment to tourism in Queensland. We’re encouraging all eligible operators to apply for these funds and are looking forward to seeing the outcomes.”

Tourism Industry Development Minister Kate Jones said the two-stage process of the Growing Tourism Infrastructure Fund would involve an Expression of Interest (EOI) and evaluated shortlisted applicants will be invited to provide a Full Business Case (FBC).

“This infrastructure fund which we promised during the election is designed to create new construction and operational jobs and drive more visitors to regional Queensland,” she said.

“I’m proud to officially open the expressions of interest process today.

“We’re looking for applicants to match government support with a minimum $1 million commitment.

“Other requirements include applicants must be able to start within 12 weeks of execution and be completed by 30 June 2021.

“We’ve set these parameters to ensure we deliver the kind of infrastructure that will create jobs in our key tourism destinations.”
