2025 Apprentice and Trainee Program

Traineeship and apprenticeship initiatives are now offered by Council to address the recruitment and growth needs of the community by attracting applicants with a commitment to study within a range of fields at Council.  Our traineeships and apprenticeships can help you kick start your career in local government and help you take the next step toward your future career.  A traineeship or apprenticeship allows you to gain on the job experience whilst completing studies. 

Why Join Our Program?

Our traineeship and apprenticeship program helps you gain a nationally recognised qualification while you work. They combine practical work with structured training to give you a nationally recognised qualification and the experience you need to be successful. It also offers opportunities like:

  • Earn while you learn;
  • No study debt;
  • Relevant, real-world experiences; and
  • Live and work locally.

Traineeships and Apprenticeships on offer:

  • Information Technology Traineeship – Certificate III in Information Technology
  • Business Traineeship – Certificate III in Business
  • Apprentice Plumber - Certificate III in Plumbing
  • Apprentice Fitter and Turner – Certificate III in Engineering - Mechanical Trade (Fitting/Machining)

How to Apply 

To submit your application, click on the Trainee and Apprenticeships 2025 and choose 'Apply For Job' and follow the steps. Applicants must complete the Eligibility Questionnaire (include with your with cover letter), and funding eligibility will be evaluated upon receipt of your application. Make sure to reference the traineeship or apprenticeship that you are interested in.

Your application should include:

  • A cover letter
  • A current resume
  • Statement addressing the selection criteria
  • Trainee/Apprenticeship Eligibility Questionnaire
  • Most recent academic record
