Apprentice and Trainee Program

Traineeship and apprenticeship initiatives are offered by Council to address the recruitment and growth needs of the community by attracting applicants with a commitment to study within a range of fields at Council.  Our traineeships and apprenticeships can help you kick start your career in local government and help you take the next step toward your future career.  A traineeship or apprenticeship allows you to gain on the job experience whilst completing studies. 

Minimum education standards are required. Recruitment generally commences in the mid-latter part of each year, with positions commencing early the following year.

Council may offer a range of opportunities in areas such as:

  • Boilermaking;
  • Plumbing;
  • IT Service Support;
  • Library and Information Services;
  • Civil Construction; and
  • Business administration.

COVID-19 immunisation requirements 

Under the new Queensland Government measures linked to COVID-19 vaccination status, some positions in Council require the employee to be COVID-19 double vaccinated by 17 December 2021. If the position you are applying for is one of these, it will be identified as such. Candidates for the positions requiring COVID-19 double vaccination will be required to submit suitable evidence of their vaccination status during the application process.
