Click here to find out moreHinchinbrook Shire Council is committed to reducing waste going to landfill. Council is therefore shifting focus from seeing waste as simply 'waste', to treating waste as a potential resource which needs to be recovered and recycled.
There are three key issues that Council is working to address within the local waste space:
- The space available within our landfill is rapidly decreasing;
- The household recycling bins are heavily contaminated; and
- There are limited local markets available for recycling waste streams.
To assist the Hinchinbrook Shire community, sustainable waste management practices are being developed and adopted in line with the four R's of sustainability.
