How to Nominate

The 2024 Australia Day Award Nominations are now open and members of the public are encouraged to nominate an individual or group whom they believe deserves recognition for their valuable and selfless efforts. To nominate, you will need to complete a 2024 Australia Day Awards nomination form. 

Please note that Nominees must reside within the Hinchinbrook Shire.

Completed nomination forms must be returned to the Hinchinbrook Shire Council, attention Chief Executive Officer:

Supporting documentation may also be provided with your nomination form if you feel it will assist the judges in making their decision.

Printed copies of the nomination form are available for collection from the Hinchinbrook Shire Council main office.

Nominations close 5.00pm Monday 8 January 2024.

Award recipients for 2024 will be announced at the Hinchinbrook Australia Day Celebrations being held on Friday 26 January 2024 at the Hinchinbrook Shire Hall. 

Australia Day Award Categories
Award Criteria
Citizen of the Year 

Outstanding achievement and leadership in the local community.
Demonstrated selfless commitment, application and dedication, involvement in activities that promote the welfare and wellbeing of the community.

 

Nominee must be 27 years or older on 26 January next

Young Citizen of the Year 

Outstanding achievement and leadership in the local community.
Demonstrated selfless commitment, application and dedication, involvement in activities that promote the welfare and wellbeing of the community.

 

Nominee must not be more than 27 years of age on 26 January next

Individual Achievement  Presented to a person who has made a significant contribution to local community group/s either as an official, coach office bearer or in some other official or volunteer capacity
Senior Cultural 

Significant achievement and contribution in the field of the arts and/or involvement with an organisation that enhances the development of the arts, culture and entertainment

 

Nominee must be 18 years or older on 26 January next

Junior Cultural 

Significant achievement and contribution in the field of the arts and/or involvement with an organisation that enhances the development of the arts, culture and entertainment

 

Nominee must not be more than 18 years of age on 26 January next

Community Events of the Year  To be presented to the person or group who has staged the most outstanding community event during the year
Senior Sport

Significant achievement and contribution in a non-professional sporting field. 

 

Nominee must be 18 years or older on 26 January next

Junior Sport 

Significant achievement and contribution in a non-professional sporting field.

 

Nominee must not be more than 18 years of age on 26 January next
