Hinchinbrook Shire Council celebrates Australia Day on 26 January each year.
On Australia Day we come together as a nation to celebrate what's great about Australia and being Australian. It is a day to reflect on what we have achieved and what we can be proud of in our great nation. It is also an opportunity to reflect on our nation's history, and to consider how we can make Australia an even better place in future.
Australia Day celebrations reflect contemporary Australia: our diverse society and landscape, our remarkable achievements and our bright future.
In 1988 during our Bicentennial Celebrations the first Hinchinbrook Shire Australia Day Awards were presented and have become an annual tradition which is still upheld today.
Join Hinchinbrook’s official Australia Day Ambassador in celebrating Australia Day. Our Ambassador Mr Matthew Nagas is recognised for his work in building awareness, recognition and support for Australian South Sea Islanders in the Bundaberg district.
These free festivities include an Australiana Concert, presentation of Australia Day Awards and the cutting of the Australia Day Cake followed by a light morning tea, tea and coffee.
Date: Friday 26 January 2018
Time: 9.00am — 11.00am
Bring along your families and have a great Aussie morning.
The Australia Day Committee would like to specially invite those residents that share their birthday with Australia Day.
The Hinchinbrook Shire Council Australia Day Awards recognise members of our community who have made an outstanding contribution to the community, and for their exceptional achievement in a variety of areas.
Members of the public can nominate an individual or group whom they believe deserves recognition for their valuable and selfless efforts.
Please note that nominations for the 2018 Australia Day Awards are now closed.
