Council Chief Executive Officer Alan Rayment today confirmed that he would be moving quickly to call the Statutory Post Election Meeting after the Declaration of the Poll to allow the new Council to be sworn in and ready to tackle urgent relief measures arising from the COVID-19 implications.
Mayor Jayo foreshadowed relief arrangements such as deferment of the requirement to pay rates for a period, waiver of interest charges on rate arrears, and waiver of business related fees and charges such as food licences and refuse gate fees for COVID-19 affected businesses.
Given the Council caretaker period, such matters cannot be attended to at present however the Chief Executive Officer will ensure a report is tabled at the April General Meeting for determination, if not sooner.
Ratepayers affected by COVID-19 could immediately apply to Council to arrange periodic payments as that facility is currently available. Such requests may be made by contacting Council or completing application forms available online via Council’s website, Rates Payment Plans page.
