Media Release - Lower Herbert Residents Update - Be Prepared

20th February 2021

Hinchinbrook Local Disaster Group is continuing to monitor the current weather situation and river conditions and advises that the river height at the Ingham Pumping Station is presently at 8.65m and steady. The river at Ingham Pump station remains below Minor.

Whilst the river is expected to rise slightly due to continuing rain and water levels in the upper catchment, modelling does not suggest any significant increases. We will advise immediately in the event that such outlook changes.

For residents in the Lower Herbert area where minor flooding is continuing, a reminder of some pertinent facts about our river and our roads just so you can plan ahead.

Water comes over the Ingham Halifax Road at “Washaway” at 8.7 metres (Ingham Pump Station) and water comes on to the Anabranch Bridge at Bemerside at 8.9 metres (Ingham Pump Station). As notified earlier, some surface water is already present at the Cordelia side of the Halifax Washway.

Motorists are reminded that there may still be some surface water over roads throughout the district and extensive care should be exercised when driving.

For information regarding local conditions, including river heights and  monitoring, please visit the Hinchinbrook Disaster Dashboard or contact the LDMG on 07 4776 4600.

Residents are urged to continue monitoring the BOM website www.bom.gov.au/qld/warnings for further weather warnings and updates.
