Media Release - Hinchinbrook Cemeteries Statement of Principals

15th May 2018

The Hinchinbrook Shire Council recently adopted the Hinchinbrook Cemeteries Statement of Principles.

The aim of the Statement of Principles is to provide a consistent approach to the operation of cemeteries owned, managed and maintained by the Hinchinbrook Shire Council. The Statement of Principles applies to all individuals, organisations, businesses and workers who enter a cemetery under Councils control.

Mayor Ramon Jayo said ‘Council acknowledges the sensitivity and appreciates the time and effort families undertake in maintaining sites for their family and friends and wish to provide clear guidelines in relation to items allowed on and around sites to provide balance between site presentation and operational activity required.’

Council will be undertaking inspections as part of ongoing operational activities to ensure the presentation of the cemeteries and grave sites are in line with the Statement of Principles.

Family and friends are encouraged to visit gravesites to undertake any corrective action that may be required to meet the new guidelines.

For more information about the Hinchinbrook Cemeteries Statement of Principles please visit Council’s website Cemeteries page.
