Media Release - Discover Fun at Tasman Turtle’s Picnic Day

24th May 2022

Join Tasman Turtle on a journey of fun and discovery at the TYTO Parklands on Saturday 28 May 2022 from 9.00am to 2.00pm.

The TYTO Parklands will be alive with activities, workshops, games, food, and entertainment for the whole family to enjoy.

Mayor Ramon Jayo said, ‘Tasman Turtle’s Picnic Day is a great day for families with loads of free fun and inspiring activities and workshops for children, their parents and caregivers to enjoy. We encourage all our local families and regional neighbours to visit the beautiful TYTO Parklands in Hinchinbrook next weekend for Tasman Turtle’s Picnic Day.’

This year Tasman has a friend in town! Ariel the Little Mermaid will be paying a visit to Hinchinbrook and would love to catch up with some little people in our very special environment and waste education area, Eco Cove. Ariel is planning regular story readings, talks about how we can better look after her home and is happy to pose for photos with your mini waste warriors. There are also plenty of games and prizes for the kids in Eco Cove, to teach them about littering, waste and recycling and have fun at the same time.

Adrenaline Games will be nonstop on the day with gelsoft, archery and laser tag, visit our petting zoo to make some new furry friends. Storytime, messy and sensory play will be down by the paperbark trees. Visit the kids corner run by the Educators United team that will be hands on helping your little ones to make a kite, decorate a fabric frisbee, colour a wooden hand spinner and much more! Creative children will be able to decorate their own tote bags with different fabric puff paints; creating their own designs and then using them to carry all their craft goodies home for the day.

Bella Dance Studio and The Dancers Academy of Ingham will put on another showstopper performance! The White Wizard is back on stage providing endless laughs in a hilarious show including puppets, music, audience participation, jokes and of course magic designed to delight audiences of all ages.

Tasman Turtle’s Picnic Day is a free event, and the day will be jam packed with family entertainment, free craft activities, and eco-friendly activities. Food and beverages presented by key not-for-profit groups will also be available for purchase.
