Media Release - Council Promotes Inclusive Workplace Culture

Council’s Infrastructure and Operations Team have been busy replacing kerb and channel on Roati Street Ingham as part of the capital works program. Council appreciates the cooperation from residents during the construction period.  Another project due to commence this month is the replacement of kerb and channel along Kehl Street, Lehane Street, Row Street and Druery Street Ingham. 

The team including contractors are congratulated for delivering the Roati Street project amidst the recent heat event in North Queensland.  Like many Council teams, the capital works team acknowledges diversity and brings a unique blend of knowledge and skills to the workplace.  Diversity can include characteristics such as cultural background and ethnicity, age, gender, gender identity, disability, religious beliefs, language and education.

At Council an inclusive culture is promoted where everyone feels valued, respected and being able to fully contribute whilst having equal access to opportunities.  Works Team Leaders and fellow workmates are recognised for sharing their knowledge and skills with Council’s new team member, Izabel Saxton. 

Izabel has commenced in the position of Civil Construction and Plant Operations Apprentice. The Roati Street works and kerb inlet upgrades across the Shire have exposed Izabel to a range of core skills in her first months which include concrete laying, formwork setup, implementation of traffic management controls and general site safety. 

Apprenticeships and Traineeships combine work with study so you earn while you learn.  Apprentices and Trainees complete a nationally recognised qualification while learning valuable skills at work and under the guidance of a training organisation. 

To find out more about opportunities in our region, Council is hosting a Careers Expo titled Find Your Future in Hinchinbrook aimed at High School students.  The event is designed to inspire our next generation and will be held at TYTO Conference and Events Centre in the near future.
