Media Release - Council gets behind the Movember Movement to stop men dying too young

Hinchinbrook Council

14th November 2018

Hinchinbrook Shire Council is this year participating in Movember, an annual event involving the growing of moustaches throughout November to raise awareness of men’s health issues, such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer, and men’s suicide.

Mayor Ramon Jayo said that Council was proud to support the Movember movement and encouraged the discussion around Men’s health issues.

‘Every day we are seeing our fathers, brothers, sons and friends being affected by issues such as prostate cancer, testicular cancer,  mental health issues and suicide.’

‘The Movember Foundation tackles men’s health on a global scale and have one goal, to stop men dying too young.’

Hinchinbrook Shire Council staff have been fundraising to support the organisation with funds raised going directly to the Movember foundation.

Mayor Jayo encouraged others to seek help if they had concerns ‘if you think something is not right then speak up. Whether it is for yourself or someone you know, there is always help available. Visit your doctor, speak to your mates and look out for each other.’

Help is available via your local GP or by calling lifeline on 13 11 14.
