Council has recently finalised the construction and upgrade of 26 kerb crossing in the Ingham, Halifax, Lucinda, Dungeness and Taylors Beach areas.
The construction and/or upgrades have enabled equitable access to footpaths and walking trails for people with disabilities/impairments, their families and their carers.
The installation of kerb crossings, which includes tactile markers and improved wheelchair access, allows for social inclusion of people of all abilities to fully participate in community life and health and wellbeing activities.
In addition the kerb crossings will benefit senior citizens, a vital and at risk populus within Hinchinbrook's ageing demographic and parents with infants in prams.
This project was jointly funded by Hinchinbrook Shire Council and The Department of Local Government, Racing and Multicultural Affairs through the Local Government Grants and Subsidies Program (LGGSP).
