Click here to find out moreThis page provides you with detailed information about how Kerbside collection works in the Hinchinbrook Shire and what you habe to do to organise replacements or new and additional bin services.
The first video shows you how the kerbside collection system works and what are the do's and don'ts's for collection days.
Please note that residents within the Mount Fox are not currently eligible for a household waste collection service, instead these households are provided with the use of a community skip bin, serviced weekly, located at Bull Hill on Mount Fox Road.
Households entitled to a kerbside waste collection service are provided with one 240L General Waste (red lid) bin, serviced weekly, as well as a 240L Recycling (yellow lid) bin, serviced fortnightly on the same day as the general waste bin.
Council in association with MAMS can provide each household with a free replacement of a whole new bin once per financial year if the old bin is broken. Please note that there will be a fee of $96.00 per bin to be paid if the bin breaks again in the same financial year.
Council in association with MAMS can provide the customer with free replacement of lids, pins and wheels when they need to be exchanged. Especially during wet season water can run into the bin if the lid is cracked and to prevent the bin from filling with water, Council strongly recommends ordering a new lid. Please note that there will be a fee of $16.00 per lid to be paid if the lid breaks again in the same financial year.
To request a replacement please contact Council via phone on 4776 4600, via email on council@hinchinbrook.qld.gov.au, or through the #don'twastehinchinbrook app (which you can download by scanning the barcode below).
Council has a contract with MAMS Group to provide Domestic Waste Collection services to the residents of the Hinchinbrook Shire.
To increase efficiency, MAMS operates a split-body combination truck to service both, your general waste bin and recycling bin, during the same round. Below is a photo of the truck.
The body features two individual compartments, which keeps your waste and recyclables separated! The photo below shows the two different compartments of the truck.
The following video will show you how the truck collects general waste and recyclables in one go but without mixing it.
General Waste (red bin)
The contents of the General Waste (red lid bin) are disposed of at the tip face at the landfill located within the Warrens Hill Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre. All waste disposed of within the landfill attracts the Waste Levy under the State Government's Waste Reduction and Recycling Act 2011.
Recycling (yellow bin)
The truck will empty the recyclables at the Warrens Hill Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre into the dedicated container, however, will be then transported to the Re.Group Materials Recovery Facility (MRF) in Townsville. Once received at the MRF, the materials go through an automated and manual sorting process. Once the materials have been sorted, they are baled and sent out to different factories to become new products. Below is a video of how the MRF in Townsville works.
Below is a video provided by the Materials Recovery Facility in Townsville to understand how the recyclables are processed after Kerbide collection.
Below is a brief summary of what goes into the recycling bin (yellow) and what goes into the general waste bin(red).
Please be aware that the items below do NOT go into any of your household bins.
