Media Release - AirBridge Networks Supports and reinforces Hinchinbrook with Resilient Network Infrastructure During Time of Disaster

26th January 2024

On Wednesday 24 January 2024 AirBridge Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Douglas Stephens met with Council’s CEO Mary-Anne Uren and key Local Disaster Management Group personnel to introduce AirBridge Resilient Network Infrastructure (ARNI).

ARNI provides essential communications, high-speed data services and greater situational awareness, enabling faster recovery and improved readiness for disasters. AirBridge’s equipment is ready to be deployed in the Shire, to assist first responders and community members should communication signals be lost.

Acting Information Services Manager Scott Wilkinson said “Recently Council enlisted the services of AirBridge Networks to enhance its network infrastructure, incorporating the installation of Starlink satellite technology to add to Hinchinbrook’s resilience.inchin”

During Cyclone Yasi in 2011, the Hinchinbrook Shire had a complete internet and mobile outage for a nine hour period. At this time Emergency Services and first responders were not able to be contacted. As a precaution, Hinchinbrook Shire Council reached out to Douglas Stephens to procure a portable trailer setup with Starlink, Telstra and Optus communications.

Council’s Chief Executive Officer, Mary-Anne Uren said “Council are thankful for the provision of the AirBridge Rapid Network Infrastructure (ARNI) mobile system over the course of this event. It gave reassurance that Council could maintain communications if required during the event.”

“The ARNI units are powered by Vocus Satellite Starlink and built with the industries premium network and electronic hardware. This combination will ensure unbreakable connectivity for Council at a time where digital disconnection is not an option” said AirBridge CEO, Douglas Stephens.
