Media Release - Council to Allow Financial and Other Incentives to Encourage and Promote Eligible New Development Within the Shire

11th May 2023

To encourage new development within the Shire, Council has implemented a process which will allow for the consideration of waiving development application fees and infrastructure charges.

“The newly adopted Development Incentives Guideline provides direction as to the circumstances where Council may consider waiving fees and charges for developments which meet the eligibility criteria” said Mayor Ramon Jayo.

“Council will also consider applications for infrastructure charge waivers under this Guideline, where an applicant is able to demonstrate an economic benefit to the Shire which exceeds the infrastructure charges which would otherwise be payable”.

“A request to waive application fees or infrastructure charges must be made to Council in writing at the same time as the development application, and Council is not able to waive any fees or charges once paid” said Mayor Ramon Jayo.

To submit your waiver request please email council@hinchinbrook.qld.gov.au prior to making any payments.

To view eligibility criteria and preferred development types please refer to the Development Incentive Guideline available on Council’s website, Development Incentives Guideline page.

For further information please contact Council’s Development and Planning Team on 4776 4600.
