8th Hinchinbrook Birdlife Art Award Winners Announced and Donations for the Hinchinbrook Shire Library

8th Hinchinbrook Birdlife Art Award Winners Announced

On Friday 6 October 2023, the 8th Hinchinbrook Birdlife Art Awards Exhibition Opening Night took place at the TYTO Regional Art Gallery.

These prestigious awards recognised outstanding artistic achievements across various media, providing a valuable platform for emerging and established artists to display their creative talents.

The opening night drew a significant crowd, and we extend our gratitude to all participants for their unwavering commitment and effort in submitting a total of seventy-seven remarkable artworks for judging.

Below are the category winners:

  • Open Award (sponsored by Powerlink Queensland) – Entrant 49 “All About the Bling” by Helen Thrift Brooks;
  • Local Artist Award (sponsored by Guido’s Panel and Paint) – Entrant 68 “Depth and Harmony 1” by Sharon Cislowski;
  • Youth Award (sponsored by Wilmar Sugar) – Entrant 23 “Vibrant Harmony” by Hamish Darvenza;
  • Section 1: Painting (sponsored by Ingham Mazda) – Entrant 13 “Azure Kingfisher” by Michael Ferris;
  • Section 2: Watercolour (sponsored by Paronella Park) – Entrant 32 “Wandering Whistling Duck’’ by Heather Byrne;

Voting for the People’s Choice Award will remain open until the close of the exhibition with the winner of this category announced the following week.

The 8th Hinchinbrook Birdlife Art Awards will be on display daily from 10.00am to 4.00pm until Sunday 29 October 2023. 

Rate Notices Past Due

Have you paid your rates yet? 

Rate Notices were due for payment on Saturday 30 September 2023.

Council encourages ratepayers who may have difficulty making payment to discuss a payment plan as soon as possible.

Ratepayers also have access to assistance under Council’s Financial Hardship Policy.

If you have not received your Rate Notice, please contact Council to obtain a copy and update your contact details.

Colouring In Competition

Happy Grandparents Day - colouring in competition.

In Queensland, Grandparents Day is celebrated every year on the last Sunday in October.

This year, Grandparents Day will be held on Sunday 29 October 2023. 

To celebrate Grandparents Day, visit the Hinchinbrook Shire Library and pick up your colouring in competition to enter. 

Entries close 12.00pm Saturday 28 October 2023.

Grandparents Day recognises the contribution grandparents make to families and the community. 

Donations for the Hinchinbrook Shire Library

Have you got puzzles, toys and games in good condition that are not getting time out of the cupboard?

Donate them to the library for our community to enjoy. 

The library happily receives books, magazines, old photographs, and historical materials as well.

Computer Skills Class

Are you seeking to update your Computer Skills?

Join us at the Hinchinbrook Shire Library for Computer Classes.

  • Advanced Group 10.00am to 12.00pm; and
  • Beginner Group 12.30pm to 2.30pm.

When: Every Thursday (except school  holidays)

Where: Hinchinbrook Shire  Library

Cost: Free

RSVP is essential.

Storm Season Clean Up Days

Storm Season is almost here.

Hinchinbrook residents are invited to take advantage of Council’s free waste disposal days to prepare their properties. 

Eligible items can be dropped off at the Warrens Hill Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre (WHLRRC) during normal opening hours on the below dates: 

  • Sunday 22 October 2023; and
  • Saturday 11 November 2023.
