Fire hydrants and standpipes

Fire hydrants are a vital part of our water network and play an important role in supporting fire‑fighting and emergency response across the community.

To ensure they are ready when needed, hydrants must remain clear and accessible at all times. We regularly maintain and monitor hydrants to keep them in working condition.

Using fire hydrants

To protect community safety and maintain reliable water supply for emergencies, use of fire hydrants is strictly controlled.

  • Fire hydrants must not be used without Council approval

  • Unauthorised use can impact emergency response and water supply

    Accessing water through standpipes

For approved non-emergency uses, such as filling a swimming pool, we provide metered hydrant standpipes for hire.

Standpipes allow controlled and measurable access to water from designated hydrants, without affecting emergency readiness.
