Hinchinbrook Community Grants

We are proud to support local not‑for‑profit organisations, community groups and individuals through the Hinchinbrook Community Grants Program. 

Community Grants help fund local projects, events and activities that strengthen connections, support wellbeing and contribute to a vibrant and resilient Hinchinbrook community for residents, workers and visitors alike. 

Council is committed to providing grant funding in a fair, transparent and accountable way to ensure funding delivers real benefits for the Shire. 

Applications are open and being taken for 2026-2027.

Applications will close Wednesday 16 June 2027. 

What can community grants support?

Community Grants can support a range of projects and activities, including those that: 

  • Bring people together and strengthen community connections 

  • Support youth achievement and participation 

  • Deliver local events and activities 

  • Contribute to community and economic development 

  • Improve community facilities and services 

Funding is available throughout the financial year until the annual grant budget is fully allocated. 

Grant categories

Council offers funding across the following categories: 

  • Local Community Support 

  • Youth Achievement 

  • Community Activity 

  • Community and Economic Development 

Each category has specific requirements, which are outlined in the Community Grant Policy and Application Form which are available on this page. 

Who can apply?

To be eligible for a Community Grant, applicants must: 

  • Be based in or operate within the Hinchinbrook Shire 

  • Demonstrate community benefit through their project or activity 

  • Meet the requirements of the relevant grant category 

Depending on the type of application, this may include: 

  • Not‑for‑profit organisations (for Community Activity and Community Development grants) 

  • For‑profit organisations (for Community and Economic Development grants only) 

  • Individuals (where applicable) 

Applicants must also: 

  • Not have any outstanding debts to Council 

  • Hold appropriate public liability insurance 

  • Demonstrate community involvement and inclusion 

  • Source some level of support (cash or in‑kind) where possible 

  • Provide acquittal documentation for any previous Council funding 

Meeting eligibility criteria does not guarantee funding. Grant assessments are based on available budget and Council priorities. 

How to apply

To apply for a Community Grant: 

  1. Download and complete the Community Grant Application Form 

  1. Answer all questions fully 

  1. Attach any supporting information if required 

  1. Keep a copy of your application for your records 

Please note: 

  • Incomplete applications cannot be assessed 

  • Applications should be typed or neatly handwritten 

  • Do not bind applications (staple once in the top‑left corner only)

Support is available for: 

  • Not‑for‑profit organisations

Important to know

Community Grants are limited by Council’s annual budget and strategic priorities.

Funding amounts requested may not always be approved in full, and not all applications will be successful. 

Applicants are encouraged to consider these limits when planning projects and submitting applications.
