These systems are important for safely treating and disposing of wastewater at your property. 

Your responsibilities 

Septic systems are regulated under public health legislation and are the responsibility of the property owner. 

To keep your system working safely and effectively, you must: Ensure your system is properly approved and installed  

  • Arrange regular inspections and pump‑outs  

  • Maintain the system to prevent breakdowns  

  • Prevent wastewater from entering waterways or neighbouring properties 

Why maintenance matters 

Poorly maintained septic systems can: 

  • Pose serious risks to public health
