Waste facilities

We operate two waste facilities across the Shire to support safe disposal, recycling and resource recovery. Use the information below to plan your visit, including locations, opening hours and accepted materials. 

 

Warrens Hill Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre

  • Monday to Friday: 8.00am – 5.00pm 

  • Saturday and Sunday: 8.00am – 5.00pm 

Accepted waste

Warrens Hill accepts a wide range of household, commercial and recyclable materials, including: 

  • General waste 

  • Green waste 

  • Household recyclables 

  • Cardboard 

  • Clean earth 

  • Commercial and industrial waste 

  • Construction and demolition waste, including:  

  • concrete 

  • bricks 

  • timber 

  • asbestos* 

  • Mattresses 

  • Fridges and freezers 

  • Air conditioners 

  • Scrap metals 

  • Empty gas bottles 

  • Batteries 

  • Hydrocarbon waste (oil and filters) 

  • Eligible, clean and empty drums (drumMUSTER)

Free waste items

The following items can be disposed of free of charge, provided they are placed in the designated areas: 

  • Hydrocarbon waste (oil and filters) 

  • Batteries 

  • Cardboard 

  • Eligible drumMUSTER drums (clean and empty) 

  • Empty gas bottles 

  • Fluorescent tubes 

  • Electronic waste (e‑waste) 

  • Glass and plastic bottles and jars 

  • Aluminium cans 

  • Scrap metals 

Prohibited waste

The following items are not accepted: 

  • Ammunition 

  • Chemicals (except on approved household chemical disposal days) 

  • Contaminated soil 

  • Explosives 

  • Flares 

  • Liquid waste 

  • Radioactive waste

Halifax Resource Recovery Centre

Please note: The Halifax Resource Recovery Centre is closed on public holidays. 

Operating hours 

  • Wednesday: 8.30am – 1.30pm 

  • Thursday: 8.30am – 1.30pm 

  • Friday: 12.30pm – 5.30pm 

  • Saturday: 7.30am – 5.30pm 
    (closed between 12.00pm and 1.00pm) 

  • Sunday: 12.30pm – 5.30pm

The Halifax Resource Recovery Centre accepts: 

  • General waste 

  • Green waste 

  • Household recyclables 

  • Cardboard

Conditions of entry to both facilities

All visitors must: 

  • report to the weighbridge operator or staff on arrival 

  • follow all signage and staff directions 

  • wear fully enclosed footwear (thongs are not permitted) 

  • keep children under 15 and animals inside vehicles 

  • allow inspection of loads if requested 

This site is monitored by surveillance cameras. Penalties apply for failure to comply with site conditions.

General waste vouchers 

We are committed to providing a fair, responsible and sustainable waste service for local households. 

To support this, each residential property receives two free general waste disposal vouchers per financial year. These vouchers can be used at: 

  • Warrens Hill Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre 

  • Halifax Resource Recovery Centre 

How the vouchers work

  • Each household receives two vouchers per financial year 

  • Unused vouchers do not carry over to the next financial year 

  • Vouchers are linked to the property, not the individual 

  • If a property changes ownership or tenancy, no additional vouchers are issued if one or both vouchers have already been used 

  • Vouchers cannot be transferred between properties 

 

What can the vouchers be used for?

Vouchers can only be used for: 

  • Domestically sourced general waste 

  • Waste generated from the same property the voucher is allocated to 

Each voucher covers: 

  • Loads up to 250kg (approximately a full ute tray or small trailer) 

  • Vehicles with a gross vehicle mass (GVM) under 4.5 tonnes 

Commercial, industrial or non‑domestic waste is not eligible. 

 

Proof of residence

Vouchers are virtual and recorded in Council’s system at each facility. No paper vouchers are issued. 

To use a voucher, residents must provide proof of residence, such as: 

  • a driver’s licence 

  • rates notice 

  • another form of official identification showing the residential address 

If proof of residence cannot be provided, the applicable disposal fee will be charged.

Domestically sourced general waste 
General waste generated at a residential property and transported by, or on behalf of, the occupier of that property. 

General waste 
Household waste with recyclable materials removed.
