A Message From Our Mayor
Whether you’re visiting, settling in, or thinking about making Hinchinbrook your new home, we’re thrilled to have you here.
This guide has been created to help you find everything you need to make the most of your time in our region — from Council services to local highlights and community connections.
People move to Hinchinbrook for many reasons.
Some return to their roots, while others are drawn to the laid-back lifestyle we’re proud to offer.
It’s a place where kids can grow up surrounded by nature, where neighbours become friends, and where joining a community group or attending one of our fantastic local events is just part of everyday life.
Our Council provides a wide range of services to support residents and visitors alike — from waste and recycling to parks, planning, infrastructure, and community programs.
We’re here to help make your experience in Hinchinbrook smooth, safe, and enjoyable.
We’re also home to some truly remarkable landmarks.
The Victoria Sugar Mill is one of the largest in the southern hemisphere, and the Lucinda Sugar Wharf stretches an incredible 5.8km into the Coral Sea.
Nature lovers will be amazed by Wallaman Falls — Australia’s tallest permanent single-drop waterfall — and the TYTO Wetlands, where over 230 bird species thrive in a space smaller than a city block.
Fishing enthusiasts will find paradise in the Hinchinbrook Channel, a world-class destination for anglers. And if you’re looking for a place to retire, Hinchinbrook has been named one of the best spots in Australia — thanks to our warm climate, strong sense of community, and stunning natural beauty.
We’re also a community that comes together in times of need. During natural disasters, we rely on each other to get through. Please take the time to be prepared — it’s one of the most important things you can do.
Whether you’re here for a short stay or a lifetime, we hope this guide helps you feel informed, connected, and welcomed. Welcome to Hinchinbrook. We’re so glad you’re here.
Mayor Ramon Jayo
