Hinchinbrook Shire Council advises residents and visitors that contractors will commence sand nourishment works at Johnson Park, Lucinda, in the coming weeks, weather permitting.

The project involves the excavation, transport and placement of approximately 5,000 cubic metres of sand to minimise the impacts of erosion, and to help protect the coastline.

Sand will be sourced from a designated borrow area behind the spit and placed along the Johnson Park beachfront to match the existing beach profile.

To undertake these works safely, there will be temporary closures of sections of the beach and foreshore area.

Heavy machinery, including articulated dump trucks and earthmoving equipment, will be operating throughout the work zone.

Members of the public are requested to:

  • Obey all onsite signage and barriers;
  • Follow directions from authorised personnel;
  • Keep clear of work areas and machinery; and
  • Take extra care when accessing nearby beachfront areas.

These essential works will help improve the resilience of the coastline and protect public assets and recreational areas along the foreshore.

This project is supported by the Queensland Government's QCoast2100 Program, delivered in partnership with the Local Government Association of Queensland (LGAQ).

Council appreciates the community’s patience and cooperation while these works are being completed.
