Hinchinbrook Shire Council will commence a water meter aerial upgrade program from Tuesday 6 October 2026, with works expected to be completed by the end of October.

The program will be undertaken at properties across the Shire where aerial water meter devices have been identified as requiring replacement.

Residents may notice Council representatives working near their water meter during this program.

Water services will remain connected, and supply will not be affected.

The water meters themselves are functioning correctly. The upgrade involves replacing the aerial device that transmits water consumption data from the meter to Council's monitoring system.

These upgrades will:

  • Improve the reliability of water consumption data collection.
  • Restore access to the H2O Portal, allowing affected residents to monitor their water usage online.
  • Enhance Council’s ability to monitor water consumption and identify potential issues more quickly.

While these upgrades will improve water monitoring and data collection, Council reminds residents that water conservation measures remain in place and encourages the community to continue using water responsibly.

Residents can learn more about current water conservation requirements and practical water-saving tips by visiting https://www.hinchinbrook.qld.gov.au/Roads-Water-and-Waste/Water/Water-conservation-measures.

This project is supported through the Regional Drought Resilience Program, jointly funded by the Australian Government's Future Drought Fund and the Queensland Government.

Council appreciates the community's cooperation while these works are carried out and apologises for any minor inconvenience during the works.
