Public Notice - Warrens Hill Landfill and Resource Recovery Works

Published on 01 April 2026

Hinchinbrook Shire Council advises that works have commenced at the Warrens Hill Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre to construct a new waste cell.

The new waste cell includes a multi-layer liner system designed to protect surrounding land and groundwater, while also increasing the site’s overall waste disposal capacity.

Construction is anticipated by late July 2026, weather permitting.

Residents may notice increased vehicle and machinery activity during this period. Council anticipates minimal disruption to services and public activity at the site.

Residents, businesses and industry users are encouraged to follow staff directions when onsite.

All works will take place within the existing landfill footprint.

Residents can help reduce waste by avoiding single-use items, recycling correctly, and using the appropriate Council bins for general waste, recycling and green waste.

More tips on reducing household waste and using council waste services are available at Hinchinbrook Shire Council.

Visit Warrens Hill Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre Cell 4 Project for more information on the project.

Council thanks the community for its patience while these important works are carried out. For more information, please contact (07) 4776 4600.
