Public Notice - New Trial Road Water Level Sensors, Hinchinbrook

Published on 11 March 2026

Hinchinbrook Shire Council has expanded the Disaster Dashboard with new trial road water level sensors to give our community clearer, real-time information during severe weather events.

Blue measuring gauge symbols on the Dashboard show where live data is available.

By clicking on these symbols, you can now view road water depths at key locations across the Shire.

These enhancements support you in understanding your local road flood risk and accessibility for travel during periods of flood or heavy rain events.

If the trial is successful, Council will consider expanding sensors to more frequently impacted roads.

You can also use the Flood Awareness (Alert) tool to check flood history and potential inundation levels for your own property.

This information helps you make informed decisions such as when to self-evacuate or action is required to protect your property, such as sand bagging.

Always remember to:

  • Prepare ahead of disaster season
  • Know your risk
  • Make a plan
  • Pack a kit
  • Stay informed and stay safe
