MOUNT FOX ROAD WORKS SEPTEMBER UPDATE #3

Hinchinbrook Shire Council continues to work closely with Traditional Owners and key project stakeholders to progress the Mount Fox Road reconstruction project while ensuring cultural heritage values are respected and protected.
As part of ongoing maintenance and road safety measures, Council's contractor has completed make-safe grading of the unsealed sections of Mount Fox Road, along with other minor works within the existing road corridor.
Motorists are encouraged to drive to the conditions, obey all posted speed limits and exercise caution when travelling through the area.
Council understands the importance of Mount Fox Road to residents, businesses, visitors and Traditional Owners, and completing the reconstruction remains a key priority.
Remaining reconstruction works are subject to agreement among all stakeholders and discussions are ongoing. Council will continue to keep the community informed as the project progresses.

Council is continuing to work closely with Traditional Owners and key project stakeholders to progress the Mount Fox Road reconstruction project while ensuring cultural heritage values are respected and protected
To maintain road safety, the Council-appointed contractor will undertake make-safe grading of the currently unsealed sections of Mount Fox Road, along with any other minor works required within the existing road corridor.
These works will take place from Monday, 7 September 2026 to Thursday, 10 September 2026, weather permitting. The road will be closed daily from 8.00am to 3.00pm.
Motorists are encouraged to drive to the conditions, obey all posted speed limits and exercise caution when travelling through the area.
Please be mindful of workers, equipment and changing road conditions, and allow extra travel time where required.
Council understands the importance of Mount Fox Road to residents, businesses, visitors and Traditional Owners, and completing the reconstruction remains a key priority.
Remaining road works are subject to agreement among all stakeholders and remains a work in progress as discussions continue.
The community will continue to be updated through Council's communication channels as further information becomes available regarding the project, and the recommencement of reconstruction works.

Hinchinbrook Shire Council wishes to advise the community that it is actively working with Traditional Owners and key project stakeholders to identify a clear way forward for the remediation of Mount Fox Road.
Council is committed to ensuring cultural heritage values along the corridor are appropriately protected and respected as part of the planning and delivery of the works program.
Reinstating Mount Fox Road and completing the necessary remediation works remain a priority for Council and its stakeholders.
Significant progress has been made through ongoing discussions with stakeholders, and Council remains focused on achieving the best possible outcome for the community while meeting all relevant obligations.
In the meantime, Council will continue to undertake regular inspections and essential safety maintenance within the existing road formation to help maintain safe conditions for road users.
Council remains committed to keeping the community informed and will provide further updates as project arrangements and timelines are confirmed.
