Public Notice - March Update on JL Kelly Theatre
Published on 12 March 2026
UPDATE the tender for the insurance-funded works has been extended to 1 April 2026.
****
Hinchinbrook Shire Council is progressing to restore and enhance the JL Kelly Theatre, ensuring this much-loved community venue can return to full operation.
Council is currently undertaking insurance funded remediation works to address flood damage sustained at the theatre.
These works include replacing moisture affected flooring, restoring seating, addressing mould, and repairing interior finishes to return the theatre to at least its February 2025 flood standard condition.
The tender for these works is now open and will close on 18 March 2026, marking an important step toward welcoming the community back to the cinema.
In addition to the remediation project, Council will also deliver a much-needed refurbishment of the theatre foyer to improve the overall visitor experience. This upgrade is being delivered through the Works for Queensland Program, proudly funded by the Queensland Government in association with Hinchinbrook Shire Council.
Council will update the community on the progression of these works when new information comes to hand.
