Public Notice - August Update, Hinchinbrook Aquatic Centre
Published on 18 August 2026
Hinchinbrook Shire Council is progressing remediation works at the Hinchinbrook Aquatic Centre to restore facilities impacted by the February 2025 flood event.
Following flood damage sustained during the February 2025 floods, Council has worked with insurers to assess the extent of damage and determine the works required to restore affected areas of the facility.
With insurance funding received in March 2026, Council progressed the necessary planning, procurement and contractor engagement processes to enable the project to move forward.
Council has now awarded the contract, with remediation works expected to commence in early September and be completed by late September 2026, subject to material delivery.
The insurance-funded works will include refurbishment of all flood affected areas to the entry, kiosk, office, meeting room, pump room and storage room.
Professional cleaning of amenities and replacement of retractable and water park sails helping to restore the facility to at least its pre-flood condition.
The Hinchinbrook Aquatic Centre will remain closed during the works.
Any temporary changes to facility access or operating arrangements will be communicated to the community as required.
These works represent an important step in restoring and improving community infrastructure following the February 2025 flood event.
Council thanks the community for its patience and understanding while these important works are undertaken.
