Hinchinbrook Shire Council advises that Anabranch Bridge is now reopened.

A detailed sonar assessment of the bridge structure was completed earlier this morning, and the data was analysed by Department of Transport and Main Roads engineers, who verified the bridge’s safety for public use.

At this stage, the Anabranch Bridge will only enable access to residents of Macknade. Halifax remains cut off due to water over Farrell Drive at Macknade Creek and at Castorina’s dips. Access via Macknade Mill does not provide a way around Castorina’s dips. Please note that Macknade Mill is private property and no?trespassing signs are in place.

Please drive with caution, adhere to all road closure signage, and never enter floodwaters.

Hinchinbrook Shire Council advises that maintenance crews are currently undertaking cleaning and preparation works on Anabranch Bridge in readiness for an inspection by the Department of Transport and Main Roads. This inspection is required to confirm the bridge’s safety prior to reopening it to vehicle traffic.

Motorists are asked to exercise patience and comply with all traffic management measures while these works are carried out.
