Media Statement - Festive Weather System Upgrade #13

Published on 05 January 2026

The following to be attributed to Hinchinbrook Local Disaster Management Group Chair, Ramon Jayo, Mayor of Hinchinbrook Shire Council:

  • It's back to last Saturday again. Moderate rainfall was received last night in the upper reaches, including around 154mm at Wallaman, so the Herbert is experiencing slow river rises throughout.
  • It is probable that Ingham Pump Station may get to Minor Flood level of 10 metres this afternoon.
  • Abergowrie Bridge is already at Minor, and modelling suggests that it may go as high as Moderate (level of the bridge) later tonight into tomorrow. We will watch that one closely in case there is any threat to the bridge closing.
  • So for now, residents of Lower Herbert and Abergowrie are urged to keep monitoring river levels as you go about your day and to make your travel plans accordingly if you see levels getting closer to cut off points.
  • Remember, Anabranch is around 8.9 metres and Abergowrie Bridge is 10 metres.
  • Details of road closures are being maintained on Council's Disaster Dashboard.
