Media Statement - Festive Weather System Update #5

Published on 29 December 2025

The following to be attributed to Hinchinbrook Local Disaster Management Group Chair, Ramon Jayo, Mayor of Hinchinbrook Shire Council.

  • The Herbert River remains below the minor flood level, so there are no issues today.
  • Halifax may nudge into the moderate range later today as rainfall from last night continues to move downstream; however, this is not expected to impact any roads or infrastructure.
  • All main transport routes throughout the district remain open. Dalrymple Bridge on Hawkins Creek Road may close shortly if it has not already done so.
  • A small number of secondary roads, which we are familiar with — including Bosworths Crossing — are closed.
  • Updated road closure information is available on Council’s Disaster Dashboard.
  • Rain is expected to continue at this stage, and further advice will be issued later this morning regarding the short-term outlook.
  • For now, please go about your business without concern.
  • Rubbish collection is occurring as normal.
