Media Release - What's Your Big Idea? Community Grants Open

Published on 01 December 2025

If you’ve ever thought, “What if we did that here in Hinchinbrook?” — now is the moment. Tell us what you want to build, and together, we’ll make it happen.

Hinchinbrook Shire Council is once again handing the reins to its community with the opening of the 2025–2026 Community Grants Program, accepting applications until 17 June 2026.

More than just funding, this grant is the spark that ignites local passion, forges connection, and builds the Hinchinbrook we all want to live in.

Already, Council’s investment is making a real difference. In the 2024–2025 financial year, Council activated $78,760 through its Community Activity Grant stream — empowering local groups, clubs, and individuals to bring ideas to life.

Over that same year, Council supported and ran 32 community events, creating space for celebration, gathering, and belonging. That kind of impact matters because strong communities don’t just happen — they’re built.

This grant program helps everyday people turn their visions into reality. Whether it’s a youth-led achievement project, a festival to unite neighbours, or an initiative to boost the local economy, every dollar awarded helps build a stronger, more resilient Hinchinbrook.

For many grassroots organisations, the biggest obstacle is simply getting started.

You don’t have to be a professional grant writer: free help is available through the Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre, so anyone with a strong idea can put their best foot forward.
