Every community has its quiet achievers.
They are the volunteers who give their time without being asked, the young people who lead by example, the sporting stars who inspire us, and the community members who make Hinchinbrook a better place simply through their actions.
The Australia Day Awards are an opportunity to recognise those people.
Hinchinbrook Shire Council is now calling for nominations for the 2027 Australia Day Awards, inviting residents to help celebrate the individuals, groups and organisations whose contributions help strengthen our community.
Mayor Ramon Jayo said the awards are one of the community's most important opportunities to acknowledge the people who make a difference behind the scenes.
"Every day, there are people across our Shire making a positive impact," Mayor Jayo said.
"The Australia Day Awards are an opportunity for the community to thank those individuals and celebrate the contribution they make to the place we all call home."
Whether it is a volunteer, sporting achiever, community leader, cultural contributor, young person or local organisation, Council encourages residents to consider those whose efforts deserve recognition.
If someone has made a difference in your community, now is the time to nominate them.
Nominations are now open for the 2027 Australia Day Awards and close at 5.00pm on Monday, 14 December 2026.
Please return the completed nomination form and any supporting documentation by the closing date.
