Published on 25 March 2026
Local young people will have the chance to dive into the world of technology and creativity next month, with two free hands?on workshops being held at the Hinchinbrook Shire Library on Friday 10 April.
Delivered through the State Library of Queensland’s Regional Digital Development project in partnership with Hinchinbrook Shire Council, the sessions aim to boost digital skills and spark curiosity in emerging technologies.
The morning will take participants into the fast?growing field of drone technology.
Facilitated by regional STEM specialists Red Dirt Robotics, the Drone and Programming Workshop will introduce attendees to the basic principles of flight, safe operation, and digital control.
Young people aged 9 to 15 will have the opportunity to experiment with simple coding tasks that allow drones to perform movements and complete flight challenges.
The session is designed to build problem?solving skills while showing how drone technology is being applied across industries and communities. Places are still available for this workshop.
In the afternoon, creativity moves from the skies to the workshop table with a 3D Design and Printing session, which is now fully booked.
Participants will learn to use Tinkercad, a beginner?friendly digital design platform, to construct their own models using shapes, measurements and design logic. The workshop guides attendees through the process of preparing a digital design for printing, demonstrating the role of additive manufacturing in real?world settings. Each participant will take home a 3D object they designed themselves.
Both workshops are free to attend and aim to provide regional students with access to high?quality STEM learning opportunities.
Red Dirt Robotics brings extensive experience delivering hands?on, practical programs to young people in remote and regional areas, supporting the development of future?ready digital skills.
Sessions run from 10:00am to 12:00pm for the Drone and Programming Workshop, and 1:00pm to 3:00pm for the 3D Design and Printing Workshop.
Places are limited and registrations are essential. Bookings can be made by contacting the Hinchinbrook Shire Library team on 07 4776 4614 or visiting Hinchinbrook Tickets to register.
The programs are supported by the Department of Customer Services, Open Data and Small and Family Business.
