HLDMG Public Notice - Anabranch Bridge and Halifax Washway

The Hinchinbrook Local Disaster Management Group advises that the Anabranch Bridge at Bemerside and Halifax Washway will close when river levels reach 8.9 metres at the Ingham Pump Station.

The minor flood level at Ingham Pump Station is 10 metres, and if this level is reached, these roads will likely be impassable.

Residents in the Lower Herbert area should monitor river levels closely and make travel decisions accordingly.

Current River Conditions

  • Gleneagle: May reach minor flood level (4.5 m) late Saturday morning.
  • Abergowrie Bridge: Currently 5.97 m and rising; may reach 6.0 m this morning.
  • Halifax: Currently 3.26 m and rising; may exceed 4.0 m late morning.
  • Ingham Pump Station & Gairloch: Minor flood level is 10 m and may be reached. Current readings: Ingham Pump Station – 7.29 m at 6:59 am; Gairloch – 6.94 m at 6:52 am on 3 January 2026)

  • Do NOT drive, walk, or play in floodwater – it is dangerous.
  • Obey road closure signs and plan ahead.
