HLDMG Public Notice - Access to the Lower Herbert and Abergowrie Areas

Update #6: Access into the Lower Herbert area is now closed due to the closure of both the Halifax Washaway and the Anabranch Bridge.
Current flood modelling indicates the most likely peak levels as follows:
Halifax – 5.40 metres, peaking at approximately 10:00 PM on 2 March 2025
Gairloch – 10.91 metres, peaking at approximately 6:00 PM on 2 March 2025
Ingham Pump Station – 11.69 metres, peaking at approximately 6:00 PM on 2 March 2025
Please note: These forecasts may change if further heavy rainfall is received.
Residents of Taylors Beach are reminded that flood water may impact the Taylors Beach Road at around river height of 5.2 metres (Halifax gauge)
Lucinda residents are reminded that flood water may impact the Halifax to Lucinda Road at around 5.3 metres (Halifax gauge).
The Bureau of Meteorology will provide a further briefing this afternoon. We will issue additional updates should conditions change.
Residents are urged to monitor official updates and avoid travelling through flood-affected areas.

Anabranch Bridge (Bemerside area) is now closed.

Halifax Washaway along Musgrave Street is now closed.

Residents in the Abergowrie and Stone River areas are advised to leave now.
Current advice indicates that access between Ingham and Trebonne remains open at this time.

All LOWER HERBERT residents who are in other areas of the Hinchinbrook to depart now – river levels are rising rapidly at Anabranch and Halifax.

Upstream gauges are continuing to rise and once the Ingham Pump Station gauge reaches 8.99m, access to Abergowrie and the Lower Herbert via both Anabranch Bridge and the Halifax Washaway is likely to be closed.
At these levels, Anabranch Bridge, and the Halifax Washaway are expected to be covered by floodwater.
Abergowrie bridge will be affected by flood water at 10 metres (Abergowrie Bridge level)
Residents in the Lower Herbert should closely monitor river levels now and consider travel plans carefully, as rapid rises and ongoing rainfall may cut road access with little warning.
Council’s local road information on the Disaster Dashboard will continue to be updated twice daily at 7.00am and 2.00pm.
