Hinchinbrook Shire Council has started building a new $2.8 million section (Cell 4) at the Warrens Hill Landfill and Resource Recovery Centre.
This new area includes a modern, multi-layer liner that helps protect nearby land and groundwater from contamination. It will also give the landfill more space so it can keep operating safely in the future.
Construction began in January 2026 and is being carried out in stages so the landfill can stay open.
