Dungeness Channel Dredging Investigation - Notification of Works

13th February 2018

Hinchinbrook Shire Council has engaged Jacobs Group (Australia) Pty Ltd to undertake a geotechnical investigation for the Dungeness Channel Dredging Project as well as for the proposed new floating walkway at the Dungeness Boat Launching Facility.

The works will be undertaken between Tuesday 20 February and Saturday 24 February 2018, weather permitting. The investigation will be undertaken on a purpose built shallow water punt fitted with a testing frame which uses a variety of sampling and testing equipment to obtain the test samples and results for engineering interpretation, necessary for the planning and feasibility of the project.  The following works are expected to be undertaken:

  • 5 days of sampling and testing will be undertaken within the proposed dredge channel area
  • Half a day of sampling and testing in the area surrounding the boat ramp where future maintenance dredging is proposed
  • 1 day at the location of the proposed floating walkway (located on the upstream side). The punt rig is likely to be beached during the operation of the testing for the proposed floating walkway.

It is advised that all vessels are required to slow down when in the vicinity of the punt rig and stay at least 20 metres from it when anchored. The punt rig will be marked with a no wash flag to identify the need for other vessels to slow down.

If you require any further information please contact Council’s Infrastructure Services Delivery Department on 4776 4605.
