Click here to find out moreHinchinbrook Shire Council is proud to partner with education and employment providers to offer members of the community unpaid work experience placements.
These placements are offered to school students, university students or job seekers in a variety of occupations throughout the Region. With work experience providing the opportunity to shadow employees and gain real on-the-job experience, skills and knowledge which are transferable to other working environments.
Work Experience refers to an arrangement made between an educational/community organisation and Council, under which Council provides short-term unpaid work experience to a student as part of their secondary/TAFE education or to an individual as part of another community work experience program. Council will facilitate placements, where possible, to enable students to gain an insight into a particular occupation and exposure to the many opportunities that exist within local government.
Council has, over the years, provided opportunities for paid vocational employment, generally undertaken over the Christmas/New Year period.
Vocational Employment refers to an employment agreement made through a University/College where vocational placement is a mandatory or assessable part of the course or with a tertiary student directly (for voluntary placement). The student is engaged as a casual employee during vacation time only.
The Council may also advertise voluntary vocational placements, in which case the agreement is made directly between Council and the student.
