Work Experience refers to an arrangement made between an educational/community organisation and Council, under which Council provides short-term unpaid work experience to a student as part of their secondary/TAFE education or to an individual as part of another community work experience program. Council will facilitate placements, where possible, to enable students to gain an insight into a particular occupation and exposure to the many opportunities that exist within local government.
Council has, over the years, provided opportunities for paid vocational employment, generally undertaken over the Christmas/New Year period.
Vocational Employment refers to an employment agreement made through a University/College where vocational placement is a mandatory or assessable part of the course or with a tertiary student directly (for voluntary placement). The student is engaged as a casual employee during vacation time only.
The Council may also advertise voluntary vocational placements, in which case the agreement is made directly between Council and the student.
