Mobile Message Sign proves to be valuable community asset

3rd November 2017

A new Mobile Variable Message Sign which has been deployed throughout the district has proven to be a valuable community asset encouraging drivers to be more conscious of their speed.

The sign funded by the Department of Transport and Main Roads, Community Road Safety Project Grant 2016, has been deployed locally in school zones and speeding ‘hot spots’.

Hinchinbrook Shire Council Mayor and Chair of the Hinchinbrook Road Safety Committee Ramon Jayo said ‘We consider the mobile message sign to be a valuable tool which will assist in enhancing the safety of the public throughout our district. The mobile message sign will allow us to respond to complaints of nuisance motorist activity in our residential areas and will also serve to alert motorists if they are speeding inadvertently’.

The Community Road Safety Project Grant assists local government organisations and community groups to deliver short term, small scale road safety projects. This encourages community involvement in local road safety projects, supports the development and delivery of projects, and addresses local road safety issues.
