Media Release - Digital Honour Roll Project Inspires Community

5th October 2017

Members of the community are invited to attend the announcement of the WW1 Link Project Club. The project club led by Gilroy Santa Maria College teacher Sarah Dunn with students from the school will research the 39 soldiers from the Ingham district who died in WW1, including name, rank, unit, area in the district where they came from, location, date and age of death, photographs and any pertinent World War 1 military artefacts.

The clubs research will form the basis of Queensland’s first Digital Honour Roll. The Digital Honour Roll, will replicate, via digitisation, the existing honour roll located at the Herbert River RSL Club, Ingham for posterity and in doing so will provide additional information pertaining to those on the roll creating an interactive presence for the local community and tourist alike.

Hinchinbrook Shire Council Mayor Ramon Jayo has said, ‘The Digital Honour Roll project is an important project in our community, it will give the honour roll a new lease on life and a digital presence, recognising and honouring WW1 soldiers from the district.’

‘The WW1 Link Project Club is a great opportunity for younger people in our community to learn about our local history and the men and women who fought so bravely during WW1. I commend the students for taking this project on board.’
