Family’s generosity benefits community

Works to clear and remove the dense vegetation and fill material either side of the Queensland Rail bridge adjacent Eleanor Street, for purposes of improving water conveyance through the Palm Creek passage within the Ingham township, has commenced.

This work is in response to the area being identified as a major impediment and constriction to the free flow of water through the Ingham township and possible cause of greater depth of water within the upper reaches of Palm Creek adjacent the residential areas to the north of the CBD by the North-South Feasibility Study.

The project, which Council believes will assist flood mitigation efforts within the central area, would not have been possible but for the generosity of the Paris family who donated the required land to Council to enable the creek widening to occur.  On behalf of Council and the Ingham community I express our sincere thanks and gratitude to Joan, Irene, Adrianne and Maureen for their generosity for the benefit of Ingham residents.

The work, which includes the removal of approximately 8,100m³ fill material from the creek and adjacent freehold land, is assisted by funding from the Queensland Government’s Natural Disaster Resilience Program.

Council staff and contractors are presently taking full advantage and opportunity of the recent good weather to move along with significant capital works as programmed.

Works of note completed include the refurbishment of Yard and Lee Creek Bridges at Abergowrie, and Lagoon Creek Bridge which is nearing completion.

Road widening and seal works are nearing completion at Acacia Street, Forrest Beach and similar widening works to Long Pocket Road, Gort and Fanning Streets have commenced, or will shortly commence.  The Fanning Street roadworks will also include provision of a new sealed and lined car parking area for the benefit of the Ingham Community Kindergarten.  Residents are reminded that Council’s full program of works and progress being achieved are reported monthly within Council’s General Meeting Minutes which are publicly available on Council’s website www.hinchinbrook.qld.gov.au.
