Media Release - Supercharge your summer with the Summer Reading Club!

Hinchinbrook Council

23rd November 2017

The annual Summer Reading Club program, run in partnership with State Library of Queensland, Australian Library and Information Association, and Public Libraries Australia, will once again be taking place at the Hinchinbrook Shire Library throughout the summer holidays. The theme for 2017/2018 is GAME ON. Supercharge your summer as you get ready for a celebration of sports, games, technology and team spirit.

The program promotes reading and allows children and young people to develop a sense of community with other children across the country. No matter where they are during the summer holidays, it is envisioned that children and young people will be able to participate in themed activities and discover great Australian authors and illustrators.

The Hinchinbrook Shire Library Summer Reading Club will run from Friday 1 December 2017 until Tuesday 16 January 2018. All children from babies up to Year 12 students can register for free at the Hinchinbrook Shire Library and Halifax Sub Branch.

Every child who registers will receive a participation pack with library information, participation information, and an activity booklet. Prizes will be presented to the most avid readers at the Summer Reading Club Presentation Party on Friday 19 January 2018.

Last year the Summer Reading Club was a huge success with 55,874 children participating across Australia and an estimated 456,187 books being read.

Let’s make this year even bigger and better!

Registrations are now open! Sign up and get your GAME ON!
