National Tree Planting Day is Australia's largest community tree planting and nature-care event with thousands of individuals joining together to make a difference, connecting people with nature, beautifying neighbourhoods and inspiring positive environmental change.
This year’s National Tree Planting Day will take place on Sunday 29 July 2018, from 8.00am – 11.00am at the TYTO Wetlands, accessed via the Brothers car park entrance, end of Cooper Street.
Mayor Ramon Jayo said ‘National Tree Planting Day aims to inspire, educate and recruit Australians to actively care for our unique land and create future generations of committed environmental custodians.’
‘The TYTO site will be planted with Melaleuca's and a number of other native species. The trees planted are endemic to the area and will assist in maintaining the biodiversity of the site.’
If you would like to participate in this year’s National Tree Planting Day please visit the Planet Ark website, Find an Event page to register, or contact Council’s Nursery and Revegetation Officer Darren Luxford on 0419 264 221. Volunteers are also welcome to register in person on the day of planting.
Volunteers are requested to bring covered shoes, a hat and sunscreen. Gloves and water will be provided along with a sausage sizzle for volunteers.
