Council adopted its biennial Plants and Animals Surveillance Program 2022-2024 for invasive biosecurity matter within the Hinchinbrook Shire Local Government area, at its General Meeting on Tuesday 30 August 2022.

The purpose of this program is to monitor compliance with the Biosecurity Act 2014 to ensure all people who deal with invasive biosecurity matter (or carrier) are meeting their general biosecurity obligations which are identified in the Hinchinbrook Local Government Area Biosecurity Plan.

The program is centred on confirming the presence, or determining the extent of the presence, of invasive biosecurity matter across the Shire, with particular focus on (but not limited to) the following species:

  • Pond apple;
  • Acacia glauca;
  • Thunbergia;
  • Hygrophila;
  • Mikania vine;
  • Singapore Daisy;
