Media Release - Help every person get into the spirit of Christmas

Mayor Ramon Jayo launches the Mayor’s Christmas Appeal by requesting Hinchinbrook residents add a little light, love and laughter to those less fortunate in our community.

“Hinchinbrook residents have shown their compassion over the years and have supported this Appeal by generously donating gifts and food in the lead up to Christmas for needy families in the district”.

“I’m happy to say that over the years many people have contributed to the Appeal and I thank the community for their ongoing support. I urge all residents to spread some extra Christmas cheer and encourage you all to put just one extra toy or non-perishable grocery item in your trolley when shopping, and place it under the Christmas tree in the customer service area of the Hinchinbrook Shire Council main office or at the Hinchinbrook Shire Library”.

For those residents who feel they don’t have enough time to purchase a gift or food, you may like to visit Council’s main office and make a monetary donation.  All donations will be passed on to the Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre to purchase appropriate items for those in need this Christmas.

Should you choose to purchase a gift, to assist in sorting of donations, residents are asked to please wrap and clearly identify whether the present is for a male or female and for what age category.

This Appeal will remain open until 5.00pm Friday 15 December 2017 to allow time for all items/gifts to be delivered to the Hinchinbrook Community Support Centre for distribution to the needy prior to Christmas.
