Today’s activities were considered highly successful with the vast majority of the colony shifting further west into the TYTO Wetlands.
Biodiversity Australia again utilised a combination of techniques today to dissuade the Flying Foxes from returning to the Botanical Gardens. Staff also successfully redirected animals away from areas such as behind the Ingham Hospital, Conroy Hall and Davidson Street.
A small colony attempted to settle in private property in the vicinity of the CMCA RV Park in Davidson Street, however, Biodiversity Australia staff took swift action and the animals joined the remainder of the colony in the TYTO Wetlands.
Mayor Ramon Jayo reminds the community that this is stage one of the program and the works may continue for some time.
“It is great to see that the activities are progressing successfully and the animals are slowly moving further away from the CBD. Please continue to advise Council of animals that have taken up temporary residence on your property”, said Cr Jayo.
