Hinchinbrook Shire Council advises all residents in Macknade and Bemerside areas that tap water used for drinking is safe to consume. No boiling is necessary.
This notice applies to all residents from 3.30pm Friday 8 January 2021.
There is no longer a public health concern over the quality of drinking water, and it is now considered safe for all typical uses including drinking, preparing food and beverages, personal washing, dishwashing, laundry purposes and flushing toilets.
Council has worked closely with Queensland Health since Wednesday 6 January 2021 to resolve the situation as quickly as possible. The equipment affected by lightning strikes has been repaired and all necessary steps have been taken to protect the safety of the drinking water.
Residents are asked to share this notice with neighbours and friends.
