Mayor's Message - Council Connections - 29 January 2020

29th January 2020

On behalf of the Hinchinbrook Shire Council and community, I would like to congratulate the 2020 Australia Day Award winners and nominees. Without committed, community minded people like you, our community would be a poorer place.

I would also like to congratulate the two residents that we welcomed as Australian Citizens as part of the ceremony on Australia Day. There is no greater privilege than our citizenship. It’s a life-long commitment to Australia’s values of freedom, democracy, equality and respect

In addition to the Official Awards and Ceremonies that are hosted each year on Australia Day, this year Council also held a Family Fun day at the Hinchinbrook Aquatic Centre. It was a great afternoon with over 100 people attending to join in on the fun and enjoy the new inflatable obstacle course.

Ambassador Program

Tourism is the fastest growing sector in North Queensland and represents Hinchinbrook’s most exciting economic growth opportunity. Visitors tweet, text and post everything and the quality of their Hinchinbrook experience is our most powerful marketing tool.

Council’s Hinchinbrook Way Ambassador Program offers people who are passionate about art, culture, nature and sharing their knowledge, the opportunity to help promote our services and events to the world. It is a unique and rewarding experience working in a fun, dynamic environment and being an integral member of a team that promotes the Hinchinbrook Shire as a destination. If you are over 18 years of age, enjoy dealing with people, have a friendly outgoing personality, coupled with spare time, please contact Council on 4776 4792 or go online to
www.hinchinbrookway.com.au and submit an application. We look forward to welcoming you to the Hinchinbrook Way.

Disaster Preparedness

With the recent severe weather warnings, it is a timely reminder that we need to be prepared. Being ready will make a world of difference to you and the people you care about during and after a disaster or emergency event. For more information regarding Disaster Preparedness please visit Council’s website, Disaster and Emergency Information page and keep up to date by following the Hinchinbrook Shire Council Disaster Information Facebook page.
