Hinchinbrook Business Awards 2019

Congratulations to all the great local businesses and employees who were nominated and shortlisted for the Chamber of Commerce, Hinchinbrook Business Awards. The inaugural award ceremony, to be held on Thursday 25 July at Lees Hotel, has already sold out and is set to be a great event for the district. The awards highlight the incredible work that our business community is involved in and shows the diversity and professionalism that is demonstrated across the district. I look forward to seeing those in attendance at the awards next week.  

Dirt Bike Club Events 

The Ingham Dirt Bike Club will be presenting the 4WD Drive and Buggy, Gymkhana and Trail Bike Ride on Sunday 21 July 2019. The event will take place at the Ingham Dirt Bike Track, Bruce Highway from 9am to 2pm. Nomination Fees for Riders is $40 per rider. Club Membership and AMA Membership will be taken on the day. Mount Gardiner Road

Works have commenced on the seal upgrade of remaining sections of gravel along Mt Gardiner Road.  The first section of roadworks is in progress from the existing end of seal for approximately 1.2 km.  Currently this section of road is being shaped with the subbase prepared for the top course gravel to be imported this week.  The first coat of seal will be completed on this section followed by the commencement of pavement works of the remaining gravel sections which will then be sealed.  At this stage, weather permitting the works are expected to be completed by mid August.

Pond Apple Task Force

Council, in partnership with the Department of Natural Resources and Mines and the Department of Environment Science, will be carrying out inspection and control eradication work for Pond Apple in the Macknade Creek area of the Lower Herbert. This species is recognised as a high priority for control under the Hinchinbrook Local Government Area Biosecurity Plan and is a restricted invasive plant under the Biosecurity Act 2014. This work will commence on Monday 29 July and conclude on Friday 2 August 2019, weather permitting. For further information on this program please contact Council on 4776 4607 during office hours.

Pensioner Subsidies and Rate Concessions

Rate Notices will be issued by the end of the month with a due date of 30 September 2019. Residents are reminded that concessions and subsidies are available for pensioners and not for profit organisations. If you are the holder of a Pensioner Concession Card or a Department of Veterans’ Affairs Health Card – For All Conditions within Australia, you may be eligible for concessions on your rates.The Queensland Government offers a Pensioner Subsidy of 20% to an annual maximum of $200 on your General Rates. If the eligibility requirements are met for this Subsidy, Council will automatically grant a Pensioner Concession of 20% on your General Rates also to an annual maximum of $200 which means a total of 40% up to an annual maximum of $400 off your General Rates. Concessions apply to general rates and water and sewerage charges to not for profit organisations as set out in the Council’s Rate Rebate and Concession Policy.For further information contact the Rates Area on 4776 4623.
